Yacht Class n°34 (sept-oct-nov 2023)
Late June, nearly 1 500 people gathered at Yacht Club de Monaco, for a special summer cocktail party. This key event in the club’s calendar, the official welcoming of new members, was this year an opportunity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the institution, founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier III. “Following on from the Société des Régates, founded in 1888, my father, whose centenary of his birth is commemorated this year, decided back in 1953 to provide the Principality with an institution for all those who love the sea. He liked to think that even though we are a small country, we can achieve great things. His vision was to make the Yacht Club an exclusive place where to experience, appreciate and celebrate yachting, thus helping to promote Monaco as a destination”, recalled Prince Albert II, President of the YCM, in his speech. The Sovereign Prince also recalled the commitment of the Principality and the club to protecting the environment, and paid tribute to those involved and to the many events held there, before concluding: “The Yacht Club de Monaco has a history and values that we are all heirs to, and today I am counting on all of you to look to the future and to want to play a resolute role. So together, with determination and optimism, let’s write a new chapter based on our motto: one spirit, one team, one club.”
