Clube Naval de Cascais (CNC)
Finn Gold Cup

Eighty sailors from 20 nations gathered at Clube Naval de Cascais for the 2025 Finn Gold Cup, from 30th August to 6th September. Deniss Karpak became the first Estonian to win a major Finn title, the Finn Gold Cup. Italy’s Arkadii Kistanov took silver, and Finland’s OskariMuhonen won bronze, as well as the Jorg Bruder U29 Finn Silver Cup. Finn sailing is an individual sport, but as a community, sailors honour their champions collectively. Deniss Karpak, a well-deserved champion, was applauded by everyone present. His victory is an incredible continuation of a sailing story that has come full circle, since his bronze medal in Laser at the 2007 ISAF World Championships in Cascais. Fifty-five years ago, the Finn Gold Cup was won in Cascais by the legendary Jörg Bruder, his first of three titles. Fate decreed that he would remain undefeated, as he tragically lost his life in a plane crash in 1973 while on his way to defend his title for the third time. His daughter Georgia was present at this year’s Finn Gold Cup in Cascais to come full circle after recounting her father’s story in her book Regatta 977 – Biography of the champion sailor. Overall, it was a great championship at Clube Naval de Cascais, even though the conditions were not typical of Cascais, with three races in light winds and five in moderate to strong winds – a real test of sailing skill.
