52nd Conde de Godó BMW Trophy
The prestigious Conde de Godó BMW Trophy celebrated its 52nd edition in Barcelona at the end of May/beginning of June, after four days of racing in a variety of conditions. Thanks to a steadier wind on the final day, two decisive rounds enabled the overall rankings to be finalised in all classes. Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, under the presidency of Jordi Puig, paid tribute to Javier Godó, Count of Godó, by presenting him with a commemorative plaque. The award recognises the Godó family’s enduring commitment to the club and this iconic regatta. Mr Godó was president of the RCNB from 1996 to 2003. XVIIIth édition de la Puig Vela Clàssica

In Barcelona, on 12th July, the sails have now been lowered on the 18th edition of the Puig Vela Clàssica, one of the most anticipated classic yachting events in the Mediterranean. For two days, the waters of Barcelona were the scene of an exceptional show where elegance, maritime tradition and performance harmoniously mixed. With nearly 400 sailors, a fleet composed of boats from ten nationalities, competed in the Mediterranean for victory in what has become one of the most iconic events in the classic sailing calendar. Although the third and final day of the regatta was eventually cancelled due to unstable weather conditions, the general feeling among the participants was one of satisfaction after enjoying two days of superb sailing and high-level racing.
In the end, Mariska, Yanira, Clarionet, Amorita, Le Temps Perdu and Stiletto imposed themselves in their respective classes. Spanish boats Yanira and Mariska also won the Enric Puig Trophy.
In the Classics 2 category, Kanavel still had a chance to close the two points behind Clarionet, the leader. The tension was even greater in the Modern Classic fleet, where Stiletto was ahead but at equal points with Legolas, and only two points ahead of Melbac. Although no other class offered such a final suspense, Yanira put her name on the list for the fifth time in the Classics I, Mariska triumphed among the five Big Boats, Argyll dominated the podium of the Bermudan Era, and Le Temps Perdu shone in the Époque Aurique division.
A date has already been set for nexte year’s event where the duels left in suspense will resume in the unique setting of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.

YACHT CLUB OF GREECE (YCG)

The wind, the spirit and the sea: the Cyclades Cup 2025 ends with an exceptional new edition.
The Cyclades Cup is a leading superyacht regatta, by invitation, in the heart of the Aegean. Organised in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Greece, the event brings together a fleet of yachts over 30 metres to sail in the Corinthian spirit, while celebrating Greek hospitality, the natural beauty of the environment and a developed sense of community.
The second edition of the Cyclades Cup, which was held from 12th to 15th June 2025 in the island of Antiparos, has ended, confirming its place among the most remarkable and atmospheric superyacht regattas on the international calendar. Three days of racing were planned, but strong winds forced the cancellation of the last day – a reminder that in the Aegean, nature always has the last word. Superyacht regatta, by invitation, founded by yacht owners and organised in collaboration with the Yacht Club of Greece, the Cyclades Cup combines world-class sailing with the intimacy and authenticity of the Greek island. Limited to 20 yachts to preserve the community spirit, this year’s fleet included favourites like TAWERA, BARONG D, FIVEA, LA BELLE and ALMYRA II, as well as newcomers like GALMA, AIOLOS, NOMMO, NOSTROMO and MELITI. The two days of racing gave rise to an exciting competition on the coastal courses between Antiparos, Despotiko and Ios. The classes included a Corinthian Spirit division for cruising sailboats, and a 90-foot racing class, ensuring a diverse and dynamic fleet.
Among the crews were top sailors, including Olympic gold medallist, five-time world champion and two-time Rolex World Sailor of the Year, Aimilia Tsoulfa, Olympic bronze medallists Takis Mantis, Pavlos Kagialis and Sofia Papadopoulou, as well as Kimo Worthington, veteran of the America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race, who sailed aboard Almyra II. The fleet represented more than 10 nationalities and a combined length of almost 600 metres – a striking presence in the heart of the Cyclades.
The 2025 edition gave rise to remarkable performances in all classes, combining skill, sportsmanship and Corinthian spirit. This year, the “Head of the Fleet” trophy was awarded to NOSTROMO, owned by Sir Andrew Cook, who won the class honours and the best overall corrected time on the regatta. The class results and special prize winners – including best start, youngest team and Spirit of the Cyclades – can be found on the official website: www.cyclades-cup.com/about-the-race/results
This year, the Legend at Sea Award was inaugurated. This is an honorary award for the entire career of a person, which rewards individuals whose contributions have shaped the Corinthian sail. The first winner of the award is George Prokopiou, President (Commodore) of the Yacht Club of Greece and owner of AIOLOS and 8mR Flamingo. Lifelong sailor, debuting on Lightnings and visionary owner of Dynacom Tankers, Sea Traders and Dynagas.

The event is organised under the auspices of the municipality of Antiparos, with the supervision of the race by the Yacht Club of Greece. The integrity of the race is ensured by the Superyacht Racing Association (SYRA), and scoring is managed by the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) using its specialised rules and scoring system for superyachts (ORCsy) – developed in collaboration with SYRA – in order to ensure fair and exciting races for yachts of different sizes, types and designs. The next edition of the Cyclades Cup will return to Antiparos, from 10th to 13th June 2026.

CLUBE NAVAL DE CASCAIS (CNC)

Mirpuri foundation sailing trophy 2025
The Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy is a prestigious annual regatta organised in partnership with the Clube Naval de Cascais. Founded by the Mirpuri Foundation as part of its marine conservation programme, the event is plastic-free and raises awareness about ocean health through initiatives such as the “Mirpuri Foundation Ocean Award”, which rewards significant contributions to the sustainability of the oceans. The 6th edition of the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy came to an end after a weekend (4-6 July) marked by strong winds, demanding seas and high level regattas on the Cascais stretch. With more than 150 boats and hundreds of sailors from 18 countries in eight classes (TP52, NHC, ORC, Snipe, SB20, Finn, J70 and Optimist), the regatta has reaffirmed its status as a major sailing event in Europe, successfully blending high performance competition with sustainability and global impact. The regattas began on Saturday at noon, a traditional cannon shot fired from a Portuguese navy ship symbolically marking the start of the races. The day was defined by ideal weather conditions, which allowed to organise races in all scheduled classes.

On Sunday, however, strong winds and intense gusts changed the scenario, leading organizers to cancel races for most classes. Only the TP52 class met the necessary conditions to compete, demonstrating the versatility and resilience of these boats in more demanding weather conditions. This year, the honours went to Racing for the Planet, skippered by Bernardo Freitas in the ORC class, and Green Eyes, skippered by Carlos Mirpuri in the NHC class. The weekend was also marked by the coronation of the new TP52 world champion: Quantum Racing.

Beyond the competition, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy continued to distinguish itself as a benchmark in sustainability. Officially recognised by UNESCO as part of the Decade of Marine Sciences for Sustainable Development, the event raises public awareness and funds marine conservation initiatives.

Paulo Mirpuri, president of the Mirpuri Foundation, said:
“This event reflects our commitment by showing that passion for sailing can go hand in hand with the protection of our oceans. We want to inspire a new generation to take care of the planet while celebrating sporting excellence.” The 2025 edition once again demonstrated that it is possible to combine high-level competition, scientific innovation and environmental responsibility in a single world-class event. The organization has already confirmed that the 7th edition of the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy will take place in July 2026, again in Cascais.

The Mirpuri Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Portugal. Founded by the entrepreneur Paulo Mirpuri, its mission is to contribute to a better world for future generations. Convinced that setting an example is the best way to change attitudes, the foundation encourages cooperation between legislators, companies, communities and individuals. It operates in six distinct areas: Marine Conservation, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Performing Arts, Social Responsibility, Medical Research and Aerospace Research. Sustainability is a fundamental principle in all its activities. The Mirpuri Foundation is synonymous with technology, research, knowledge and innovation, combined with values of integrity, perseverance and altruism for a positive impact on the planet. |
ROLEX TP52 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

From 1st to 6th July, the Rolex TP52 World Championship took place in Cascais, organised by the Clube Naval de Cascais.
The American crew Magic Quantum Racing, led by Doug DeVos, was crowned Rolex TP52 2025 world champion in Cascais. Racing under the U.S. flag, the team is an effective mix of experienced former winners led by tactician Terry Hutchinson Sean Clarkson, James Dagg, Matt Cassidy, and Greg Gendell, all of whom have won numerous TP52 world championships as well as a new and young generation including Harry Melges IV and Sara Stone, the first female sailor to have won the world championships.
This is the eighth time the Quantum crew has won the world title, though veteran Hutchinson admitted at the dock of the Cascais marina that this victory was the hardest fought to date. They were pushed to their limits by the French team Paprec, skippered by Jean-Luc Petithuguenin.

After leading for much of the week and remaining consistently in the top three, Les Bleus finished in second place, just one point behind the Americans, and at point in the final race, the French team even had victory at hand. Back in Cascais, the 11 boats from nine nations were not disappointed. It was only in the middle of the event that there was a single day of racing with light winds. The sailing area had to be moved into the mouth of the river to give rise to a thrilling arena that experienced big gusts dotted with areas of much lighter winds.
It is the third time that the New York Yacht Club team has won the title of Rolex TP52 world champion in this iconic venue. The French team, led by offshore sailing legend Loïck Peyron, leaves Cascais with their heads held high. At 65 years old, Peyron shows no signs of slowing down, still eager to learn and evolve in the high-pressure environment of great prizes. Takashi Okura’s team finishes on the world podium for a second consecutive year but failed to collect the points needed to wrest the title from the first two crews. Meanwhile, Tony Norris, from the Plattners’ Phoenix team finished first helmsman owner.

YACHT CLUB PUNTA DEL ESTE (YCPE)

THE Clipper Round the World Yacht Race
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will be back in Punta del Este next October, in partnership with the prestigious Yacht Club Punta del Este (YCPE), the only South American port of call for the most difficult sailing competition on the planet. This is the fourth consecutive time that the Club will host this iconic race and its international fleet. The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race was founded by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, thirty years ago. It is the only event of its kind that opens up the world of ocean racing to ordinary people from all over the world and, without needing any previous sailing experience, trains them to participate in one, to all or any combination of the eight stages that make up this 40,000 nautical mile circumnavigation.

The fleet will have travelled more than 6,000 nautical miles, from Portsmouth, in the United Kingdom, to cross the Atlantic during the trade winds stage, to reach Punta del Este. Known for its changing conditions, from strong storms and squalls to the stifling heat of the Pot-au-Noir, this first stage is both tactical and physically demanding. In addition to its role as host port, it is important to note that the Yacht Club Punta del Este has also participated, as a team partner, in this world regatta, sponsoring one of the 11 sailboats during the last two editions: the first, named “Punta del Este” (2019-20) that won second place overall, and the second, “Yacht Club Punta del Este” (2023-24), led by a Uruguayan skipper member of the Club, Fernando “Nano” Antia, as part of its 100th anniversary celebration, arrived first in his hometown during the opening stage of the race.
