YACHT Class n°41 (June-July-August 2025)
YACHT CLUB OF GREECE (YCG)

A heavy schedule
The Yacht Club of Greece continues to be a beacon of yachting excellence. Beyond its nautical prestige, the Club also thrives as a lively social hub. Housed in its historic main clubhouse, members enjoy a rich calendar of events, from exclusive meetings to elegant social and business gatherings, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Saronic Gulf, the Acropolis, and the whole of Athens. Among the ocean races and dinghy regattas organised almost every weekend, three events certainly stand out. The Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta returns for its 13th edition from 25th to 28th June. A symbol of maritime elegance, this popular regatta celebrates Greece’s maritime history with a fleet of classic wooden yachts, timeless traditional sailing boats, and classic dinghy racers. Another highlight of the 2025 racing calendar is the Cyclades Cup – Antiparos, which takes place from 12th to 15th June 2025. Designed for yachts over 30 metres and featuring a 90ft racing class as well as a Maxi class, this rising star of the superyacht circuit made a successful debut last year. Co-organised by the Yacht Club of Greece with the Cyclades Cup organisation and supported by the SuperYacht Racing Association and the ORC, the event features three competition classes inspired by ancient Greek mythology: the Apollo Class for majestic yachts, the Skyphian Class for performance-oriented vessels, and the Meltemi Class for elegant and fast sloops. With 11 yachts taking part in 2024, we expect even greater participation in 2025, with 15 yachts already registered. Later in the season, the 58th Andros International Yacht Race – John B. Goulandris, from 28th to 31st August 2025, promises exciting offshore racing. It is one of Greece’s most challenging and historic yachting competitions, which pushes both crew and craft to their limits in a test of endurance and seamanship.
SOCIETE NAUTIQUE DE GENEVE (SNG)
Inauguration of the Ylliam Lighthouse

The Ylliam lighthouse was inaugurated on 6th May 2025 at the Société Nautique de Genève. The structure, designed by Geneva architects Bureau, now symbolically marks the entrance to Geneva’s harbour. Over the past eight years, Geneva’s harbour has in fact undergone a profound metamorphosis, with the creation of the Eaux-Vives beach, the development of the Quai de Cologny and the extension of the Port Noir. Inaugurated in the company of representatives of the Société Nautique de Genève and the cantonal and municipal authorities, the Ylliam lighthouse puts the finishing touches to the work begun in 2017. Made of a light metal structure, with thin cables that preserve the view and give the whole layout its airy, light feel, it rises to 21 metres. It is also topped by a low-energy diode lantern, which can be lowered manually to facilitate maintenance. Needless to say that the Société Nautique de Genève is extremely proud to inaugurate this lighthouse and to make it available to all users of Lake Geneva. The Club would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in its development, and especially Pierre-Yves Firmenich for his commitment and generous support, enabling us to offer this new lighthouse, which is unique in Switzerland, to the Club and to Geneva.

The 86th Bol d’Or – from 13th to 15th June 2025

The 86th edition of the Bol d’Or du Léman promises to be an exciting one, with a new finish line marked out by the new Ylliam lighthouse! The Bol d’Or du Léman Organising Committee’s objective is to organise a high quality, friendly and convivial regatta that will delight the racing public. The 86th edition of the iconic regatta will focus on the essentials, namely organising a regatta for lovers of Lake Geneva and sailing, with a flawless organisation on the water thanks in particular to the work of our loyal volunteers. The Société Nautique de Genève also confirms its desire to open up and share, and will remain open throughout the weekend. The public will have direct access to the l’Esplanade du Pavillon des Sports. Finally, for the first time in the history of the Bol d’Or du Léman, the finishes will take place in the axis of the Ylliam lighthouse; a clearly visible landmark for the competitors, which will give a special touch to the finishes. In short, the Bol d’Or du Léman 2025 aims to be efficient on the water and simple and friendly on land.

From heroism in the sun to strategy forged in the storm, every moment reflected the soul of Corinthian racing. However, it is precisely this wildness that gives the Cascais triumph its flavour. The 2025 championship will be remembered not just for the boats and the results, but also for the spirit — the roar of the wind, the crash of the swell, and the shared heartbeat of 54 Corinthian teams chasing the horizon. The 52 Super Series are back in Cascais from 1st to 6th, with the jewel in the crown of the competition, the Rolex TP52 World Championship Cascais 2025, where several thousand people will not miss the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the world’s best sailors, aboard what many consider to be the “Formula 1 of the seas”. Gonçalo Esteves, Commodore of the Clube Naval de Cascais, comments on the 2025 Portuguese round of the 52 Super Series: “For us in Cascais, it is difficult to go a year without being able to host the first fleet racing event in the windward-leeward format. It has been two years of absence… And what better place to put the teams to the test than the Rolex TP52 World Championship Cascais 2025? July is the heart of summer, but we can expect a good variety of winds, between the strong Nortada of Cascais (wind from the north of the Iberian Peninsula in summer) and the Portuguese trade winds blowing from the Atlantic. Cascais has been the scene of some of the most memorable races in the history of the 52 Super Series World Championship”.

YACHT CLUB PUNTA DEL ESTE (YCPE)
Les membres du Yacht Club Punta Del Este, Hernán Umpierre et Fernando Diz, brillent sur les plus grands circuits de course du monde
The European sailing calendar has kicked off with some of the most prestigious regattas across all classes. Among them, two major events attract the world’s top crews as they prepare for major milestones such as the 49 er World Championship in Cagliari in October and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Representing Yacht Club Punta del Este, Hernán Umpierre and Fernando Diz took part in the Trofeo Princesa Sofía in Mallorca from 28 March to 5 April, in the 49 er class. With 91 teams on the starting line, they finished a fine 15th and were the second-best team in the Americas – only the United States came higher, in 6th place, followed by Chile far behind in 47th. Wasting no time, the team headed to Hyères, France, to compete in the Olympic Week regatta held from 21st to 26th April – another essential event in the elite sailing calendar. This time, Umpierre and Diz delivered a brilliant performance. After 13 intense races, they entered the final Medal Race in first place. Although they did not have the finish they had hoped for in the two-point final, they did secure a place on the podium, finishing third overall, behind the United States and Germany. After the Paris Olympic Games, they remain among the best 49 er class sailors in the world. With Hernán and Fernando taking third place on the podium, this clear domination, alongside the United States, underlines their leadership in the region and fuels optimism for the 2027 Pan-American Games in Lima, where they shall be looking to improve on the silver medal they won in Santiago in 2023.
