The SEA Index\u00ae, a tool for assessing the environmental impact of yachts, has just been introduced in Monaco and in 15 new ports located in a triangle between Menton, Saint-Tropez and Bonifacio. It is portrayed as “a reliable and neutral model for consumers and stakeholders concerned about the carbon footprint of ships.” Founded in 2020 by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Cr\u00e9dit Suisse, and recently awarded the Capenergies label, the benchmark compares the manufacturer’s data with the average ratios for the superyacht fleet in order to rate a vessel. In addition to CO\u2082 emissions, the index takes into account the technologies of the future (hydrogen fuel cells) and new fuels (methanol). Its deployment is good news for the environment on the C\u00f4te d’Azur, where more than half the world’s fleet of yachts over 30 metres is concentrated. Prince Albert II, President of the YCM, welcomed the initiative, but warned that more can be done: “The SEA Index\u00ae is now a must-have.
