The founders of the YCPE would undoubtedly be proud of the generations that have followed them. On February 14th 2024, the Uruguayan club will celebrate its 100th anniversary, still guided by the very same foundations written down at its creation in 1924: “Yacht Club Punta del Este will be a Club where people will learn how to sail, build boats, a social meeting point in a town mostly with fishermen living at that moment near a lighthouse, and to start organizing regattas between yacht clubs from different countries and our club.” Today, the club hosts more than 100 races a year, including the famous Rolex South Atlantic Circuit, organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club Argentino (another club twinned with the Yacht Club of Monaco) and Classic Boats Sailing Week. Last year, the YCPE also hosted ILCA Central and South American Championships, which had more than 230 entries. It also finished second overall in the Clipper Race with its boat Punta del Este. The club also has a sailing school, with more than 110 kids and adults all year around sailing in its fleet and learning how to enjoy the sea. YCPE provides scholarships to private and public schools in the area, to give the opportunity for everyone to discover the passion of sailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Founded in 1933, the Yacht Club of Greece is the country’s leading yachting institution. With a large number of prestigious members, the YCG is a very dynamic club, both on the national and international scene. As one of the leading yacht clubs in the Mediterranean, the YCG organises thus numerous European and international regattas each year, as well as many social events and galas. And the last few months have been no exception. After returning to its normal rythm, the club located on the Piraeus Hill in Athens had a busy offshore racing season with our Winter Cup and the beautiful Hydra Race. It also run annual races in many dinghy classes Optimist, Lighting, Dragon, Yngling, 420\u2026 We should also note the great performance of its para sailing team, who won the silver medal at this year’s Para Sailing World Championships. In 2023, the calendar of the Yacht Club of Greece looks once again very busy. Its glamorous Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta is scheduled for June 22nd-25th. Its intense International Andros Yacht Race will end the summer season from August 31st to September 3rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After making their debut last year at the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, another twinned club with the Yacht Club de Monaco, the ORC Double Handed World Championship will be organized this year by the RNCB from September 9th to 15th. The pre-registration period has already started, form is available on the regatta’s official website (www.bcnorcdhworld2023.com). Deadline for entries is August 10th 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is the dean of the cruising regattas in Spain. The Trofeo de vela de God\u00f3 will celebrate its 50th edition from May 24th to 28th at the RCNB. Created and supported since 1974 by the God\u00f3 family, this regatta will have a crew category and repeats the Double Handed category, giving projection to this modality in view of the celebration of the ORC Double Handed World Championship from 9 to 15 September 2023 by the club. In addition, the female participation is promoted, including the women’s category with monotype boats still to be specified. Deadline for entries is 19 May 2023 at 20:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just over a year ago, Alinghi founder Ernesto Bertarelli and two-time Olympic champion Hans-Peter Steinacher announced the launch of the new Alinghi Red Bull Racing team, presenting its logo at the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nautique de Gen\u00e8ve, under whose colours it will participate in the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024. Last February, the team entered a new training phase with the delivery of the first AC40. This 40-foot one-design, the little sister of the AC75 on which the teams will be sailing, is mandatory for all the teams. It will be used as a training boat, as well as for the first two pre-regattas and the parallel youth and women’s events. “We are excited to be sailing our second boat. Next to the AC75, it looks like a toy, but with all the technology of its big sister” said team member Arnaud Psarofaghis. “The AC40 will allow us to develop our sailing skills with greater flexibility and efficiency. We will rotate the sailors on and off, it is the pre-regatta boat, so we need to learn to use it to its full potential before the first race.” A second AC40 is expected later in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From July 7th to 9th 2023, the CNC will host the 4th edition of the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy. This regatta, created in 2020 by the Foundation to raise awareness and funds for marine conservation. Organised in partnership with the Portuguese club, the competition expects over 100 sailing boats, including conventional and high-performance cruisers, who will compete on this dynamic water body of the Atlantic coast. Alongside the NHC, ORC, SB20, Finn and Optimist classes, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy will welcome for the first time the Snipe Class, for the 2023 edition of the race, matching the famous Snipe South European Championship. Registration is now open. The Mirpuri Foundation is also involved in the famous Ocean Race, the crewed round-the-world race with stopovers, with its VO65-1 ‘Racing for the Planet’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Clube Naval de Cascais (CNC) is celebrating a great anniversary this year. Founded in 1938, in this small seaside resort on the Atlantic coast at 30km from Lisbon, the club has played a major role in the development of water sports in Portugal and its international reputation. Its sailing school, created in 1950, has been the cradle of generations of sailors who have achieved the highest levels of success, as evidenced by their numerous podiums and international titles. CNC is the Portuguese Yacht Club which has the highest number of sailors who participated at the Olympics and has been present in all editions since 1948, where it won its first medal (Silver). In addition, it has since 2007 a Center of High Performance used intensively by the national and foreign sailing teams. As one of the world\u2019s best venues for yacht racing, the waters of Cascais have welcomed more than 100 major international events (Iberian, European and world). Since 1995, thanks to the construction of the marina adjacent to its premises, it offers the possibility of sailing all year round instead of only a few months due to the bad sea and weather conditions in winter.
