Admittedly, this model is a success
Yacht Class n°7 (dec-jan-feb 2017)
Armed with experience in navetta, Custom Line, which belongs to the Ferretti Group, set the bar higher this year with the 37M. In our opinion, she deserves the award of the boat of the year. You can hardly find a more sophisticated unit than her. Just try her to adopt her…

When Alberto Galassi, Chief Executive Officer of Ferretti Group, gathered the specialized press at the opening of the Cannes Yachting Festival, he couldn't help but beginning his speech with the iconic brand Riva, before continuing on the range of "mini" habitable flybridges. This Custom Line family actually has two units in the "Planing Series", the 108’ and the upcoming 120, and four Navettas, the 28M, the 33M (project), our 37M presented here and the 42M (project). Since its creation in 1997, Custom Line has known a continued success. Thus, the Navetta 37M, unveiled last June in the form of an assembly of a hull and superstructures without any arrangement, already has a flattering orders book : four units sold and some serious contacts in Cannes. This owes nothing to chance. In many ways, Custom Line symbolizes the very best in this category of flybridges between 25 to 45 metres. One opts for a Navetta because she has the many qualities expected on this type of unit. Regarding her exterior design, her creator, Zuccon International Project had a priori no difficulty to "dress" her volumes to obtain a perfectly balanced silhouette. Her lines are taunt, but without exaggeration. This 37 metre looks like a small yacht, which should please clients. On the day of our trial, the sunny weather led us to start our visit with the outdoors. Four in number, their master piece is undoubtedly the sundeck. With its surface of about 80m2, it can accommodate equipments dedicated to farniente, including a jacuzzi, on the front part, surrounded by sunpads. The central roof provides shade to both the bar and its kitchenette (sink, refrigerator, barbecue and storage) and the dining room for 6. Entirely uncluttered on our unit, the sundeck aft can also accommodate deckchairs. Below, the upper deck is also very pleasant thanks to its vast terrace, about 40 m2, which easily gathers a dining room for ten, a lounge and solariums.
The cockpit was conceived as a relaxation spot, perfect to enjoy snacks and even meals thanks to its lounge, coffee table and armchairs. Finally, like on many units, leisure is also on the foredeck menu thanks to its lounge with two coffee tables and a solarium for six. It also accommodates a triangle-shaped sunpad at the forward end against the top part of the bow. What better way to conclude this visit of the outdoors than with the stern, its garage and beach club. Such as on the Navetta 28, the transom rises to unveil a 5.65 metre tender and eventually some toys, such as SeaBobs. Stored in a some sort of "trough" containing water, the tender is easy to launch. Then, the transom lowers to become a bathing platform. Just add a flooring on the immersed part of the garage to obtain the proper beach club a 37 metres has to offer, especially when intended to charter. Let's say a word about the interior layout. We suspected them to be generous in space and thus in volume. Habitability is the spearhead of Custom Line and this 37 M is no exception. In the dining-living room area - vast and bright thanks to its generous lateral windows - we immediately size up her interior layout. And, a few metres away on the main deck, we discover the full-beam master. As Custom Line's project manager, Mario Macchini, stated, this suite can enjoy an optional private balcony - invaluable and popular feature - on starboard. If not, the lateral window in the "antechamber", which acts as both a desk and a library, can be electrically lowered thanks to a unique system conceived by the in-house research and development department, AYT&D.
The master suite enjoys a real bathroom with two washbasins, an independent walk-in shower, a bathtub on port side, plus a toilet and a bidet in an independent spot on starboard. The grey marble adorned with thin white veins looks wonderful. This place also hosts a large and perfectly organized dressing, to store all clothing carefully. For obvious practical reasons, the main kitchen has been fitted on the main bridge in two adjacent spaces. Quite spacious, it enjoys a complete high-end equipment. All that remains is to find the chef to prepare the gourmet dishes that will be served either on the terrace or in the indoor living room with its magnificent sea view. At night, guests will enjoy the dedicated central part of the lower deck. They can opt for two identical VIP, a double and a twin - all en-suite. The crew will be housed in the front part of the hull which accommodates a mess, a small kitchen and three cabins : one for the captain and two with bunkbeds. Since this 37 metre boasts four decks, let's head to the lounge on level 3. Considering the size of its screen, this place could just as well be called "theater". It opens onto a vast terrace, perfect for dinners. This deck also hosts an additional strategic place on its front part : the wheelhouse. Its dashboard, which possesses all the electronics required to operate a unit of this size, was conceived by recognized experts, Team Italia.
Note that, while most control rooms proposes a real armchair, the shipyard opted here for some kind of leaning post. In the engine room two MTU 10V2000 72M (2 x 1 207 hp diesel) are professionally installed. Barely audibles in slow motion (44 dBA), high regimes will confirm their discretion : at full speed, we record 57 dbA in the lounge, only 52 dBA in the master. Ferretti's R&D department has undoubtedly worked on soundproofing. Regarding performances, no surprises : she reaches a top speed of 15,5 knots, while her recommended cruising speed is set at 1 750 rpm : 12 knots for 186 liters per hour, which represents a 2 140 miles autonomy. Well, after all, she has a 33 200 liters fuel tank. Let's note that the shipyard proposes four engine packages : from 1 207 hp to 1 948 hp (3 MTU and a Baudouin). Finally, we were actually surprised by the minimal swing angle during sharp turns. This responsiveness will be useful on a choppy sea, like a "seething cauldron", far from the conditions we had during the Cannes Yachting Festival. Nevertheless, the Navetta 37M acts soundly. Just add to this an innate sense of conviviality, generous volumes, an ergonomic layout, a discreet decoration supervised by Boutsen Design… and the final word is easy to guess : a success.
