Cruising with a capital C
Yacht Class n°11 (Dec-jan-feb 2018)
Custom Line - Ferretti Group
By debuting in Cannes, the latest unit of the Custom Line range was at least sure to reach an audience sensitive to "great cruisers". As for us, we were once again able to judge the talent of this shipyard combined with the design studio Zuccon International Project – a winning alliance.

During the official presentation of the Navetta 33, on the opening day of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2017, Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group, confirmed our suspicions : the Custom Line family continues its conquest of the sector of super-comfortable units with proven seaworthiness. First with this "33 metre", built in the Ancona yard, where are not only produced Ferretti's superyachts but also top models of Pershing, Riva and of course CRN. Next year, it will be the turn of the Navetta 42. But before that, let's focus on the "33M" whose exterior design, subtlety combining dynamic and classical forms, comes out of the design studio Zuccon International Project, headed by Gianni, the founder, and his daughter and son, Martina and Bernardo Zuccon. Note that their collaboration with Ferretti has just passed the 27-year mark, reflecting a loyalty and a confidence that has stood the test of time. From the wharf, we immediately notice her profile, in line with the Navetta's DNA, but also the size of the superstructures that gives us a clue about her great habitability, one of her strengths.
Four pleasant outdoors
Let's board on this unit dedicated first to cruising, and naturally to the pleasure of living on board, and stop for a moment on her outdoor areas, four in number, topped by the sundeck and its protecting central roof. Our unit features there a lounge, plus an opposite sofa. But considering the generous kitchenette, it could also host a dining area with a 360-degree view. For our part, the dining room is located one level below, on the upper deck, and enjoys a sea view, if not equal, at least admirable. In the same "gustatory" vein, the foredeck will also be a perfect spot thanks its outdoor lounge, with a sofa and two tables that can form one, which can accommodate up to eight guests under a canvas stretched between carbon poles. Actually, without this one, we highly recommend this spot during outings on calm sea, especially considering the reasonable speed of this Navetta that will not exceed 15 knots.
A 1 330 miles range
The Navetta 33's ambitions are clear : confidently sail in sometimes challenging conditions and cover long distances. To this end, her hull, designed by Ferretti Group's Engineering department, was endowed with a bulbous bow, improving performance and mitigating pitching motions. As for the rolling, assuming that two systems are better than one, the shipyard spared no expense by fitting her with two types of stabilisers : Seakeeper gyroscopic and submerged FINS ones. And while this assumption is partly proved, the extra cost nonetheless does not entirely justify the advantage they generate. For sure, when stationary, the Navetta does not roll and simply follows the motions of the sea, from top to bottom. Powered by twin 1 400 hp MAN as standard, this yacht has a top speed of 15 knots. By reducing it to 12 knots, her economic cruising speed, she offers a 1 330 miles range, which represents for average yachtsmen three years of private navigation in a "limited" zone, like the Mediterranean. Our sound level meter in hand, we measured 48 dBA in the living room and 54 dBA in the master in cruising speed. Such results deserve praises. In addition to the 2 x 1 400 hp MAN standard motorization, the Navetta 33 can also accommodate a few more horsepower - 2 x 1 622 hp CAT C32 or 2 x 1 650 hp MAN, and thus a few more knots, that have to be specified, since the tests had not yet been carried out.
Passport for charter
Let's move now to the interior volumes. Like many units of this size, the largest space, we find here on the main deck, accommodates both the saloon, with its sofa for six and double chair, and the dining-area, for ten. This place is particularly luminous thanks to its lateral windows and bleached oak floor. Note that the main kitchen is logically adjacent to the dining room. This deck also hosts forward the wide-body master suite, which features an "antechamber" and a walk-in closet big enough for a couple's belongings. In addition, the owner also decided to add a wardrobe, on the left of the king size bed, which despite its mirrors doors hardly fits in. It will be the future customers' prerogative to conceive a more appropriate layout, with a desk and a hairdresser for example. As for the guests, they will share four cabins below deck : two VIPs with identical dimensions, a slightly smaller double one and a twin stateroom. All have their own bathroom with separate shower plus both the bidet and toilet requested by the owner. This leads us to classify the Navetta 33 in the category of "charter-friendly" units. As for the crew : the forward section of this lower deck accommodates two cabins fitted with bunkbeds plus a single cabin, a saloon and an open-plan kitchen. The captain is housed on the upper deck, next to the wheelhouse where, in addition to an elaborate steering console, sits a bench seat. This furniture should be popular among curious passengers interested in observing navigation from this strategic point. Once satisfied with technical data, they can appreciate the vast adjacent saloon, with its sliding lateral windows opening onto the sea and the aft terrace which, on our unit, housed a dinette.
No sooner was she born and launched than the Custom Line Navetta 33 found nine buyers. This success was rightfully welcomed Alberto Galassi, the Group's CEO, and reinforces our idea that Custom Line has a natural power of seduction among sea epicureans and cruising enthusiasts.
