Yacht Class n°27 (dec 2021/jan-feb 2022)

Sunreef Yachts

Born in 2019, the Sunreef Power range gratified us with a 60 foot that debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2021. In the footsteps of the 80 Power, her habitability and luxury make her a very interesting alternative to the monohulls on the market. A special note for the level of finish of this catamaran. The new Sunreef Yachts Power range is very successful. Five hulls have been delivered over the past two years and the shipyard now boasts the recently launched the 60 Power, the 70 and 100 foot. These models have skilfully replaced the “Supreme” range that suffered from a design that was a little too cubic to blend into the maritime world and mentality. This new generation of the Power series offers the same volume but also more attractive curved lines. As with all Sunreef, the interior finishes are created by the shipyard’s design teams at the customer’s request. This is a true semi-custom policy since each model is unique, as we can see with the first two hulls of this 60 Power and their radically different layouts. The shipyard has also launched an Eco range whose first 60 has been ordered by Formula 1 pilot Fernando Alonso.

Her silhouette impresses

Exhibited in the Old Port of Cannes, we can notice that the 60 Power’s freeboard is only slightly lower than the 80’s next to her and has a gratifying beam of 10.70 m (11.50 m for her big sister). This impressive look suggests that the volume available for the different layouts is in line with the size of the boat, especially since the nacelle occupies the entire length. In total, she offers no less than 300 m², including the flybridge. The layouts can include three to six cabins, a galley in a hull or on the main deck, plus always one or two crew cabins, located in the forward parts of the hulls. The one we tested is intended for mixed private and charter use and is the sister-ship of a first 80 launched two years ago. With the galley in a hull, the saloon spreads over the width of the superstructure and can accommodate a huge sofa and a very large table for the many guests. A hydraulic door leads to the foredeck, while at the stern, the pocket glass doors entirely open, connecting the salon and the cockpit and creating a huge reception area. The transverse king-size beds in the cabins are facing large portholes to enjoy the landscape. The bathrooms have large and pleasant separate walk-in showers. It should be pointed that the headroom of over two metres creates an impressive impression of volume. The decoration, in shades of dark walnut (woodwork), matte anthracite (lacquer) and veined black (quartz worktops) evokes a very successful luxury. Each client collaborates with the yard designer to create a personal cocoon.

Attention to detail

The highly responsive in-house design department is attentive to the clients’ feedback and has upgraded many details during the construction process. On the 60 Power, the storage spaces are located in compartments that are usually unused. Trunks fitted under the flybridge staircase can be used to store water toys or sunbathing accessories. For the sake of silence, she is fitted with a 60 KWh battery pack (2 x 15 x 2 KWh batteries) operating the air conditioning all night and everywhere on board without the need for a generator. All cabins are equipped with IMac in lieu of televisions and a KVH satellite transmission system allows communication and reception of the image when offshore. The large flybridge can be fitted with a multitude of equipment on request and the hydraulic swim platform completes the package to make the most of the stay on the water.

A deep-sea range

The current conjuncture favours environmentally friendly behaviour, and the Sunreef 60 Power is set to be rather sober. The shipyard offers a choice of diesel engines between 2 x 300 hp and 2 x 850 hp. The catamaran we tested had two 705 hp Cummins, coupled to traditional shaft drives, that reached 15.3 knots at maximum speed (2 500 rpm) during our trial in the bay of Cannes. The ideal cruising speed: 10 knots at 1 500 rpm for a consumption of 55 litres per hour or 1 850 miles, which is a deep-sea range. Customers make no mistake about this and these outsized but economical units is a growing charter market.
