Yacht Class n°42 (Sept-Oct-Nov 2025)

Sanlorenzo YACHTS

Flagship of the SD line, this Sanlorenzo SD132 has many assets starting with her contemporary, yet timeless line. Each of her bridges holds beautiful surprises in terms of facilities and lifestyle, which explains her announced success.

When a manufacturer as prestigious as Sanlorenzo launches its largest unit ever made of fiberglass, a decor that matches the event is needed. And what’s more chic than a mooring at the foot of the splendid Yacht Club of Monaco? The Sanlorenzo SD132 seems to be drawn, not to blend, but to magnify the place. And we must recognize a certain resemblance between these two buildings, one terrestrial designed by the famous architect Sir Norman Foster, and the other maritime, which we owe to the talented agency Zuccon International Project: we find the fluid and horizontal lines, skillfully combining the contrasts white and black, modern and classic, sober and chic. This brand new vessel is part of the large family of Sanlorenzo yachts which includes four ranges: SL, SP, SX and SD (for semi-displacement). The latter now includes four units with the 90, 96, 118 and therefore 132. The success of this new yacht is no longer in doubt, as no less than five units have been ordered “on plans”, a very rare phenomenon, including for a brand with this reputation. Let’s go on board to understand the reasons for this success.

A real opening to the sea

Boarding takes place through a long gangway joining the main deck. One can also appreciate the stern that extends its arms to us, or rather that unfolds its bathing platform and opens its beach club featuring a bar and high stools: the well-being of passengers is already on the agenda. But the surprise is not over since, from the outdoor living room enjoying a beautiful view through the transparent paves, one dominates two side terraces opening. The opening to the sea is then very real. The traffic on the main deck is asymmetrical, with a single port side pass: this arrangement, which is reversed on the upper deck with a starboard side pass, obviously allows a significant saving of space. Inside, it immediately materializes with a beautiful dining room, with a table for ten to twelve guests, adjoining a large living room. It goes without saying that one can enjoy the softness of the general atmosphere, imagined jointly by Sanlorenzo and Zuccon International Project: the natural materials (leather, wood, stone, fabrics…) adopt soft hues in a camaieu of ochre and sand, while the furniture plays the card of roundness and softness. If a central staircase serves all levels for passengers, a second is for the use of crew members who can come and go discreetly.

A very high-end shipowner suite

Still on the main deck, and after discovering a small gym, the shipowner suite invades most of the front part of the Sanlorenzo SD132, except the kitchen of a professional level and provided with a beautiful bay overlooking the outside. One can access the owner part by a small living room installed next to the office, before entering the sleeping area with king size bed in the centre. The bay windows on both sides bring their flow of light – and ventilation thanks to their possibility of opening – in this space where a dressing table and a sofa are located, and which distributes a full width bathroom. In the latter, always very bright, one can stop for a moment to appreciate the presence of a bathtub and two cement basins treated like raw stone. Of course, a dressing room completes the high-end offer. It is time to leave this haven of peace to join the upper deck, mostly dedicated to conviviality. From the stern to the bow, we discover an outdoor living room and dining room – a kitchenette allows the chef to compose “in sight” delicious meals–, a vast indoor lounge and finally, a lounging area at the bow with benches, coffee tables, solarium and deckchairs. It should be noted, on starboard, the presence in the middle of the catwalk, of a small opening terrace where it will be nice, at anchor, to settle at sunset overlooking the sea. In the centre, the wheelhouse, equipped with four large control screens and complete equipment, and the captain’s cabin take advantage of a clear view to be very operational. Let’s take this opportunity to talk about navigation. Powered by two CAT C32 diesel engines each developing 1,622 hp (there is an option of 2 x 1,650 hp with MAN V12), the Sanlorenzo SD132 exceeds 17 knots during the outing off Monaco, but her vocation, for a wider field of action, is to adopt a moderate pace around 11 knots and thus have an autonomy of more than 3,000 miles.

A most welcoming flybridge

Let’s now climb the flybridge, a place that is always spectacular – while being intimate – due to its aerial position. Passengers can enjoy refreshments prepared at the bar, either by sitting on the high stools, or by lying down on the rear solarium, or finally by sharing the benches and deckchairs available at the front. To protect oneself from the heat of the sun, the hard-top that covers half of this bridge is equipped with adjustable louvers. To continue our visit while the Sanlorenzo SD132 is making her way back towards the port of Monaco, let’s go down three levels to reach the lower deck. In the centre, a small lobby allows access to the four cabins allocated to passengers. If two of them, a little more spacious, have the VIP designation, all reveal a high level of comfort with bay window, numerous storage spaces and private bathrooms with shower cabin and separate toilets. The bow is the area of the crew with its four cabins, and as many toilets, which can accommodate seven people, its seating area and dinette, and its laundry room. On returning to the stern, one should not miss the imposing engine room, whose organization seems able to satisfy the chief engineer, and the hangar that can accommodate, through its side door, an annex of 6 metres. Let’s go out again by the beach club and leave, with regret, this Sanlorenzo SD132 worthy of the enthusiasm she raises with her elegant design, refined decoration, multiple spaces adapted to every moment of the day and her simple and intuitive circulation. Here is a nice-looking flagship.
