Yacht Class n°43 (Dec-Jan-Feb 2026)

Ribco Marine

With her sharp looks and hull designed by Lorne Campbell, the all-new Venom 40 SC retains Ribco’s offshore DNA while incorporating a cabin for the first time. A successful addition, with no compromise on performance or style, and tested in the rough waters of Monaco.

The Venom range from Greek shipyard Ribco comprises five models ranging from 30 to 44 feet, including the brand new 40 SC (Sport Cabin). For the first time since 2015, this 11.95 m long RIB features a cabin without compromising on her sportiness. This challenge has been successfully met, staying true to the brand’s offshore DNA, with hulls designed by Lorne Campbell – a legend in offshore racing – with 11 world titles. His signature style is recognisable in the slim bow, sleek lines and exemplary handling in rough seas. The sleek silhouette of the 40 SC features a carbon T-Top and two 400 hp Mercury V10 outboard engines (or optional Mercury Racing 500 R). The stern offers large swim platforms flanking the engines. A stern anchor on the starboard side optimises anchoring, which is common practice in Greek and Turkish waters. A removable side ladder facilitates access on board, while the aft area features a generous U-shaped bench seat that can be converted into a sun deck. The teak decking adds a touch of luxury that is much appreciated. Under the T-Top, two rows of seats accommodate six passengers facing a fully equipped central console: three 16-inch Simrad screens, adjustable steering wheel, bow thruster, carbon/Alcantara finish, etc. Access to the cabin, located on the starboard side, has freed up space for the console without compromising its ergonomics. The pantograph door enhances this discreet integration into the overall design.

A real cabin for longer sailing trips

Stelios Ladopoulos, co-founder of the shipyard, points out that this cabin meets a strong demand: staying on board longer, including for skippers when the RIB is intended for professional use. Inside, the headroom reaches 1.88 m (1.96 m in the shower), and the double berth is nearly two metres wide. Wood panelling, portholes and high-end finishes give the space a real cruising feel. Back on deck, integrated handrails ensure safe movement. A double seat against the cabin precedes a 1.60 m wide solarium, housing the anchor locker, spacious storage compartments and a mooring hatch. Reinforced GRP towing cleats, positioned flush with the waterline, allow for easy towing, ideal for use as a chase boat.

High-level performance

The Monaco Yacht Show, with its cramped berths, is the perfect place to test responsiveness at low speeds. Despite the 800 horsepower at the rear, the Mercury engines deliver finely tuned thrust. As soon as we leave the harbour, the choppy water (cross swells of 60 cm to 1 m) provides the ideal terrain for assessing the dynamic qualities of the Venom 40 SC. Lift-off causes a slight loss of visibility, which is quickly compensated for by a balanced trim. At 30 knots at 4,000 rpm, fuel consumption is 171 litres per hour, rising to 212 litres per hour at 40 knots. At these speeds, as at full speed, the boat remains perfectly controllable, holds her course, and the hull – with two steps and pronounced frames – impresses in tight turns at speeds above 40 knots. The grip is firm but never brutal and does not catch the helmsman off guard. The windscreen remains dry, even at the maximum speed of 51.4 knots (reached with a hull that had been submerged for three weeks). In these sailing conditions, it is difficult to let go of the helm, such is the pleasure to be had. Responsiveness, comfort and safety combine with well-controlled power. The possibility of sleeping on board only adds to the appeal of this highly sporty RIB.
