Yacht Class n°39 (dec 2024/jan-fev 2025)
Ribco Marine
With a length of less than 10 metres, an extra cabin, a shaded deck and a high-performance hull, the latest model from the Athenian shipyard Ribco takes on many roles. This sporty, competition-inspired model boasts a hull that‘s ideal for long voyages, as well as large solariums and an efficient T-Top.

Ribco’s Seafarer and Venom ranges are well known, but the 100 G2X is inspired by a famous racer: the 100 G2, winner of the 2008 Round Britain Race. Her 55° hull angle and taut lines give her a distinctly sporty DNA, which makes a striking impression from the pontoon. Embarkation from a yacht is easy via the large platform by a fibreglass bow nose. The feeling of space on board is immediately felt thanks to the large forward sundeck, which can accommodate 3 to 4 people. Beneath this is a large peak locker and two side lockers for storing wet gear. A seat in front of the console gives access to lavatories when raised. A real plus for long days at sea. Passageways of up to 40 centimetres make it easy to get around the console or to the aft area. The T-top overhangs the helm station, providing shade for passengers when the bimini is deployed. The foam deck covering makes it comfortable to walk around with wet feet. After all, a chase boat has to be adaptable to all kinds of activities, including swimming and towed sports. Catering is not forgotten either, with a 40-litre refrigerated area under the bench seat facing the engines. In front of this, the 100 G2X offers enough space for a table.
The aft solarium reveals an interior cabin
The space aft is undoubtedly one of the strong points of this RIB. As a matter of fact, the large aft solarium opens electrically to reveal an interior cabin. Once the canvas panels have been fitted, two people can relax there, thanks to good ventilation. It can also be used as a large storage area for toys. Once the solarium is lowered, 4 to 5 people can be seated at the rear. Space and practicality made possible by the twin outboard engines on the transom. This choice of engine is yet another advantage of the 100 G2X, whether in terms of ease of maintenance and wintering, or in terms of manoeuvrability, both of which are enhanced by inboard power. Although the test boat is powered by a 2 x 300 hp Mercury, it has to be said that her maximum power output is 2 x 350 hp.
A fast cruising speed of 28 knots
The leaning post on this 9.98 m boat, measuring 3.30 m at the beam, conveys the same impression of simplicity and robustness as the rest of the boat. The ergonomics of the two bolster seats, the moulded footrest, the carbon finish, the comprehensive and well laid-out electronic equipment (Raymarine 12” and Vessel View Mercury 7”), as well as the good visibility at the helm, make her a boat to swallow up the miles. The two closed glove boxes and well-placed handrails add to the boat’s practicality. From low revs onwards, the Ribco is predictable and easy to steer, with a fairly small turning radius, which is great for approach manoeuvres or docking. The two Mercury Verado V8s have good low-end torque, and lift-off is achieved in 3.7 seconds with 3 people on board. Enough to get a skier out of the water quickly and without forcing. The rise in speed is linear and the boat reacts instantly to throttle inputs, without compromising overall stability. The helm is precise, the windshield protection correct and the passengers, seated on the rear bench seat, sail comfortably in 50 centimetre cross seas, without getting wet when changing direction. Speed is an essential element in a chase boat, and one can point out that the 100 G2X has a lot to offer. With 57 knots announced by the manufacturer at maximum power, the boat is sure to appeal to demanding boat owners. But the slightly lower 2 x 300 hp version also boasts some impressive figures: her fast cruising speed is 28 knots at 3,600 rpm, while her top speed peaks at 47.4 knots.
Powerful grip and precise bow placement
Even at high speeds, the overall stability is remarkable: thanks to the qualities of the hull, the helmsman remains in control. A large step and two strakes provide powerful grip and precise bow placement. Re-launching comes naturally and one can get out of bends quickly. The deep wakes of the boats encountered on the Cannes racecourse demonstrate just how easy the 100 G2X is to solve the wave-crossing-comfort equation. Always stable, dry and safe. The 700-litre fuel tank means you can cover considerable distances at a cruising speed of 25 knots. Depending on sea conditions, the estimated range will be close to 337 miles, enough to easily keep up with the yacht to which it belongs. This RIB fulfils all the missions of a chase boat, and more.
