The flagship endowed with state-of-the-art IPS
Yacht Class n°12 (march-april-may 2018)
Undoubtedly, Podenzano shipyard has launched a particularly successful model end 2017, the Navetta 73', which was one of the first units to inaugurate the new Volvo Penta IPS1350. Not only does her hull is satisfactory but her general comfort also completes this flattering picture.

Absolute's Navetta family unveiled its flagship during the Cannes Yachting Festival 2017, a 73 foot that did not wait long to get herself (mainly positively) talked about. The Navetta patronym generally designates models with generous volumes dedicated to cruising, preferably on a full-time basis during "off" periods. The Absolute 73' perfectly fits in this category according to her creators, the shipyard's Research & Development Lab, which was in charge of the entire design, from the hull to the interior fittings. We were able to assess this during a long navigation as Absolute spared no time to comply with our extensive test protocol.
The latest IPS
Learning that the Navetta hosts in her engine room a pair of IPS1350, Volvo Penta's most powerful and most recent model, could only arouse our curiosity. Even more so considering that at the beginning of 2017, the Swedish engine manufacturer had already informed us, quite informally, about this pods upgrade, but without giving any specific details... Developing 1 000 horsepower, the new D13-IPS1350 was about to show its power and good performance. Thus, testing the mechanics was our first priority, as we left the port of Mandelieu. Stopwatch in hand, the result we immediately obtained confirmed the high torque of our two 12.8L six-cylinders engines (each) : 12 seconds, not a hundredth more, to reach 20 knots from a standing start. Mission accomplished for the Swedish engines that will then show their robust condition : this 22 metre can hit a maximum speed of 26 knots, which makes her ranks among the leaders of the category. As for the sound level meter at a 20 knots cruising speed, it remains within the standards with 66.7 dBA in the lounge and 74 dBA in the master.
A spacious sunbridge
The Navetta's bulky superstructures leave no doubt about her livability or her comfort, as we soon found out. On this sunny day, we decided first to discover the outdoor relaxation areas. The shipyard did not do things by halves to conceive this sundeck, as three-quarters of its 52 m2 are devoted to various leisure activities like friendly meals (a table, a sofa and four seats for eight guests) or aperitifs in the lounge area. The aft deckchairs will be perfect afterwards for a sunbathing session. The sundeck offers a prominent place to the helm station with a central captain's chair, a second seat on the left plus a starboard bench, all protected by a smoked windshield. A deck below, we find the usual cockpit that can be used as a lounge or dining room for eight guests, protected by the aft of the sunbridge. The foredeck accommodates a salon (with an electric height adjustable table) plus a large solarium. This place will be comfortable at anchor but also in navigation, when the weather allows it of course. Note that the Navetta 73 has no garage but features a hydraulic platform at the stern that can accommodate the tender (no more than 3 metres-long). The transom features a door opening to the small crew area (berths, toilet and shower). It also gives access to the engine room.
Natural light and sea view
The interior designer conceived a bright common area of the main deck thanks to large side windows. By opening the sliding doors of the living room where sits two sofas and an armchair by Paola Lenti, we enjoy all this deck's advantages : plenty of salty air and a 280-degree view. This could not be better ! In addition, in the open-plan salon, with its dining "area" with a table for eight passengers, the decoration is modern and meticulous. The chef will enjoy a well-equipped and independent galley, located between the dining room and the wheelhouse. The latter welcomes the captain and his second in command on two adjustable seats with armrests, plus a passenger on a side seat (starboard). Navigation will be safe thanks to a very satisfactory visibility. The interior volume of the main deck therefore ends with the main cockpit, as all the cabins are gathered below decks.
A private access for the master
About two-thirds of the lower deck, which represents 66 m2, were divided into the four cabins. The owner will set his eyes on the 18 m2 forward one with its private staircase leading to the wheelhouse. There, the king size bed faces a partition, with a TV screen, concealing a beautiful bathroom with a shower and separate WC. Generous rectangular portholes with openings provide an ideal brightness, in addition to the sea view. Slightly less spacious, the central VIP enjoys a bed identical to the master's. On port side is a double cabin and facing it a twin, which confers to this unit a sleeping capacity of eight passengers, including the owners, perfect to join a charter fleet.
It is easy to imagine weekends, even better holidays, aboard the Navetta. We can already see how to make the most of her cleverly designed outdoor and indoor spaces. With, in addition, in the most powerful Volvo Penta IPS in her engine... Hard to complain !
